UConn Music presents
UConn Jazz Lab Band
The UConn Jazz Lab Band, a 17-piece big band comprised of University of Connecticut students, presents an afternoon of classic and contemporary jazz. The Lab Band pairs rigorous rehearsal with a deep commitment to the stylistic vocabulary that defines great big band performance, from precision section work to the art of swing.
This concert's program spans the big band jazz tradition — from Count Basie, Thad Jones, Buddy Rich, and Bill Holman to contemporary voices like Bob Mintzer. The program also features a new work by the ensemble's director, Earl MacDonald, offering audiences a glimpse of where the big band tradition is headed next.
Led by Earl MacDonald, Director of Jazz Studies at UConn, this concert reflects months of rehearsal and stands as a highlight of the fall semester.
